A planet where an alien monument implanted memories of a massacre of Nakan colonists into visitors, so that the slaughter would never be forgotten.
Tarakis is the second planet visited by a Voyager away team in Memorial. After their return, Chakotay, Tom Paris, Harry Kim and Neelix suffer vivid memories of serving in a military force that killed 82 Nakan colonists. When Janeway sees Tarakis in the sensor logs, she too starts having the memories.
The crew discovers a monument on the planet that transmits memories of the massacre to anyone nearby, built to ensure it is remembered. Janeway decides to restore the failing memorial rather than shut it down, and the crew adds a beacon to warn travelers about it.
