Kar was a young Kazon-Ogla who earned his warrior name, Jal Karden, during a tense encounter with Chakotay.
Kar was a Kazon-Ogla youth on his first mission, seeking to earn a name through conquest. When Chakotay strayed into Ogla space to perform a ceremony honoring his father, Kar attacked his shuttle. Chakotay destroyed Kar's vessel but saved his life, which by Kazon custom robbed Kar of an honorable death. Aron Eisenberg played the role.
In Initiations, Kar and Chakotay ended up stranded together on a moon used as a Kazon training ground. Kar came to respect his captive, and when Chakotay offered to let Kar shoot him so he could earn his name, Kar instead killed the commander Razik, earning the name Jal Karden.
