B'Elanna faces a monster in a radioactive ship.
Tuvok has been coaching Torres to control her temper when Voyager rescues two Malon from a damaged freighter loaded with theta radiation waste. The vessel is about to explode and would contaminate space for light-years around, so Chakotay, Torres and Neelix board with the survivors to restore its containment.
The team must clear the radiation deck by deck while a figure the Malon call the Vihaar, a creature of their legends, stalks them. It proves to be a Malon worker horribly mutated by radiation. Torres holds her temper for most of the mission before lashing out when it matters, and the freighter is sent into a star, where it explodes harmlessly.
