A Ferengi who runs a bar on the station.
Quark is the sharp-tongued Ferengi owner of the bar on Deep Space Nine, played by Armin Shimerman. Greedy by reputation and trained in the Rules of Acquisition, he runs the station's busiest gathering place, where gambling, gossip and the holosuites keep the profits flowing.
His life is tangled up with the rest of the cast. He spars with the station's security chief Odo in a long-running rivalry that turns into respect, quarrels with his brother Rom, and takes a fatherly interest in his nephew Nog. During the Dominion War he is dragged into schemes and brings both loyalty and mischief to bear on events far beyond the bar.
Quark is cherished because he is a rogue with a heart. His cynical remarks, his sudden acts of conscience and his love of a good deal make him one of the most entertaining and surprisingly principled characters in the franchise.
