Kira is sent to remove a stubborn old farmer from a Bajoran moon that is about to be made uninhabitable by an energy project.
Bajor plans to tap the core of the moon Jeraddo for energy, which will make it uninhabitable, but the elderly farmer Mullibok refuses to leave, along with his two companions, Baltrim and Keena. Kira is sent to get him out and grows fond of him, seeing her own resistance past in his stubbornness, and the situation worsens when he is wounded by a security guard.
In the end Kira destroys his kiln and sets his house on fire so that he has no choice but to leave. In a lighter story, Jake and Nog make a series of trades starting with Quark's unsold yamok sauce, end up owning land on Bajor that the government wants, and come out ahead.
