A wheelchair-bound ensign faces the demands of working aboard the station.
Ensign Melora Pazlar, an Elaysian from a low-gravity world, arrives on the station and needs a wheelchair and support equipment to function in normal gravity. She resists any special treatment, but Bashir gets past her defences and they become involved. He develops a treatment that could let her walk unaided, though it would cost her the ability to live in her home world's gravity.
In a second story, an old enemy of Quark's, Fallit Kot, arrives seeking revenge, and later takes Quark, Dax and Melora hostage on a runabout. Melora, using her ability to move in low gravity, helps end the crisis, and she decides not to complete Bashir's treatment.
