Pel is a Ferengi woman who disguises herself as a man in defiance of Ferengi law, which forbids females to earn profit. Quark hires her at his bar, impressed by her business sense, and makes her his partner in a deal that Grand Nagus Zek wants struck with the Dosi of the Gamma Quadrant.
In Rules of Acquisition, Jadzia Dax discovers Pel's secret, and Pel finds herself falling in love with Quark. Pel eventually reveals her identity to Zek himself, but Quark points out that the Nagus was fooled too, and they agree to keep her secret. She leaves to make a new life for herself in the Gamma Quadrant.
