American actor who played the Ferengi bar owner Quark across all seven seasons of Deep Space Nine after earlier Ferengi roles on The Next Generation.
Armin Shimerman is an American actor, born in 1949, with a long background in classical theater. His Star Trek association began on The Next Generation, where he played early Ferengi characters including Letek in The Last Outpost and Bractor in Peak Performance.
In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine he played Quark, the scheming but oddly principled proprietor of the station's bar, for all seven seasons from 1993 to 1999. Shimerman worked to give the Ferengi more depth than their earlier comic portrayals, and Quark's dealings with his brother Rom, his nephew Nog and the constable Odo became a backbone of the series. He also played Quark in crossover appearances on The Next Generation in Firstborn and on Voyager in Caretaker.
Outside Star Trek, Shimerman is known as Principal Snyder on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and as a voice actor, including Doctor Nefarious in the Ratchet and Clank games and Andrew Ryan in BioShock.
