The Grand Nagus visits and wants to change the Rules of Acquisition.
Grand Nagus Zek arrives with a rewritten version of the Rules of Acquisition preaching generosity and wants Quark and Rom to run his new charity. Quark is horrified, and Bashir finds nothing medically wrong with Zek. Quark and Rom discover an Orb aboard Zek's shuttle and realise that Zek went to the Prophets hoping to profit from knowing the future.
The Prophets, put off by Ferengi greed, had altered Zek. Quark takes him back to the wormhole, persuades the Prophets that leaving Zek changed would bring more Ferengi seeking answers, and Zek is restored. In a subplot, Bashir is nominated for a major medical award.
