Rom is the awkward Ferengi engineer of Deep Space Nine, played by Max Grodenchik. Dismissed for years as a bumbling brother to Quark, he slowly proves himself to be a gifted technician with a surprising moral compass.
His arc is among the series' most touching. He stands up to the Ferengi system by organizing a labor strike, marries Leeta and supports his son Nog as he becomes a Starfleet cadet. As the Dominion War rages, he risks his life on the station and later rises to become Grand Nagus, using the position to bring reforms to the Ferengi economy.
Rom is loved for his kindness, his clumsy honesty and his quiet courage. He demonstrates that a person who is underestimated can nonetheless change the course of an entire society.
