Quark claims to have killed a Klingon and finds himself a house.
A drunken Klingon named Kozak dies by accident in a scuffle at Quark's bar, and Quark lets everyone believe he killed him in self-defence, which is good for business. Kozak's widow Grilka learns the truth, takes Quark to the Klingon homeworld and marries him so that her house will not fall to D'Ghor, a rival who has been ruining the family.
Quark studies the house's accounts and exposes D'Ghor's financial scheming to the High Council. Challenged to a duel, Quark throws down his weapon and points out that killing him would be no more than an execution. Gowron stops the duel, disgraces D'Ghor and allows Grilka to lead her house. In a subplot, Keiko closes her school and leaves for a botany job on Bajor.
