In July 1947 a Ferengi shuttle carrying Quark, Rom, Nog and a hidden Odo crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, becoming the famous Roswell UFO incident.
Quark's new shuttle, a gift from his cousin Gaila, was sabotaged while taking Nog to Starfleet Academy. Rom vented warp exhaust through the illicit kemocite cargo to drop out of warp, but the reaction threw the shuttle back to 1947, and it crashed in the New Mexico desert. Odo had stowed away to investigate the smuggling.
The Ferengi were held at a United States Army base and taken for Martians. A nurse and her fiancé helped them escape, and Rom harnessed the energy of an atomic bomb test to carry the shuttle back to the 24th century.
