A transporter chief on the Enterprise-D who becomes chief of operations on Deep Space Nine.
Miles O'Brien is the chief of operations on Deep Space Nine, previously serving as transporter chief on the Enterprise-D. An everyman engineer, he is practical, warm and prone to trouble, and he is celebrated for fixing the impossible while grumbling about his luck.
His family life with Keiko and their children is an important part of the show, and his friendship with Julian Bashir is one of its emotional anchors, built on shared adventures and dinner conversations. He is often put through physical and psychological torment, including a storyline in which he is falsely imprisoned and another where he must survive an alternate reality. He also forms bonds with Worf and Sisko.
O'Brien is regarded as a fan favorite for his relatability. He is the working-class hero who keeps the ship, and the station, running.
