Apprentice of a Bajoran village's Sirah who resented O'Brien's sudden appointment, then took his place as the village's true storyteller.
Hovath is the young apprentice of the Sirah in The Storyteller. He had already failed once to lead the village against the Dal'Rok, and when the dying Sirah names Miles O'Brien his successor instead, Hovath tries to kill the chief.
He explains the secret of the Dal'Rok, which the Sirah creates with a fragment of an Orb and drives off by focusing the villagers' belief. When O'Brien's clumsy storytelling fails and the Dal'Rok grows stronger, Hovath steps forward and tells the story with confidence, banishing it and taking up his role as the new Sirah.
