Odo meets Laas, another of the Hundred Changelings sent out as infants, who urges Odo to leave humanoids behind and join him.
Returning in a runabout, Odo and O'Brien encounter Laas, a Changeling who, like Odo, was one of the Hundred sent out by the Founders as infants and knows nothing of the Dominion. On the station Odo teaches him to link, while Laas, who distrusts humanoids, urges Odo to abandon solid life and search the galaxy with him for others of their kind.
After a confrontation with two Klingons on the Promenade, Laas kills one and is arrested, though he insists it was self-defence. Kira, wanting Odo to have a real choice, lets Laas go and tells Odo where to find him. Odo meets him but decides to stay with Kira, then shows his love by surrounding her as a glowing golden mist.
