Starfleet doctor who finished ahead of Julian Bashir at medical school and visited Deep Space Nine to his great anxiety.
Elizabeth Lense is Julian Bashir's old academic rival from medical school, whose higher class standing earned her the assignment he had wanted. In Explorers, Bashir learns that she will be visiting Deep Space Nine and becomes nervous, and he is stung when she appears to ignore him at Quark's.
After a night drinking with O'Brien, Bashir approaches her and learns that her coveted assignment has been far less inspiring than expected and that she had simply not recognized him. She has followed his work with admiration, and the two end up deep in conversation about medical research.
