Doctor on Deep Space Nine and genetically engineered.
Julian Bashir is the chief medical officer of Deep Space Nine, played by Alexander Siddig. He arrives as an eager young doctor who chose the frontier post for adventure, and his early enthusiasm and romantic overtures, especially toward Jadzia Dax, earn him teasing from his colleagues.
His friendship with Miles O'Brien grows from mutual irritation into one of the series' strongest bonds, and he enjoys regular lunches and verbal sparring with the Cardassian tailor Garak. In Doctor Bashir, I Presume, it is revealed that he was genetically enhanced as a child, an illegal procedure his parents arranged; he is allowed to keep his commission.
During the Dominion War he is held in a Dominion prison camp while a Changeling impersonates him on the station. Section 31 tries to recruit him, and he later discovers that the organization created the disease that is killing the Founders and helps obtain the cure. By the end of the series he and Ezri Dax begin a romance.
