Bashir's genetically enhanced friends are brought in again.

Bashir's genetically enhanced former patients Jack, Lauren and Patrick arrive at the station with Sarina, posing as an admiral and his staff, so that Bashir can attempt to cure her catatonia. They help him perfect his instrument, and the operation works. For the first time Sarina speaks and engages with the world, quickly joining the others in an improvised vocal fugue.
Bashir falls for her and hands her care to another doctor so he can court her. After the others brush aside her ideas, she withdraws again, and when Bashir pushes the romance further she retreats into silence once more. She finally tells him she felt pressured to become the woman of his dreams to repay him for curing her. She leaves the station to take up a scientific internship. The seventh-season episode, a sequel to Statistical Probabilities, examines Bashir's need to save others and the ethics of a doctor's relationship with his patient.
