Father of Julian Bashir who had his son illegally genetically enhanced as a child and later went to prison to protect Julian's career.
Richard Bashir is the father of Julian Bashir. When Julian was a young child struggling to keep up with others, Richard and his wife Amsha had him illegally genetically enhanced, a secret the family kept for years and one that left Julian estranged from his parents.
In Doctor Bashir, I Presume, Lewis Zimmerman invites the couple to Deep Space Nine to be interviewed for a new medical hologram based on Julian, and the truth comes out. To protect his son, Richard pleads guilty to illegal genetic engineering and accepts a two-year sentence at a minimum-security prison, allowing Julian to keep his commission and medical licence.
