Elim Garak is a Cardassian tailor who lives on Deep Space Nine, and he is one of the most intriguing characters in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He appears as a charming, gossipy shopkeeper, though he is a former agent of the Obsidian Order, a feared intelligence service.
He is a friend to Julian Bashir, and their lunches and conversations are a lively part of the series. Garak's loyalties are always uncertain, and his love of his homeland conflicts with his exile. During the Dominion War he plays a major role in the Federation's efforts, and his skills with deception are put to use for both sides. His relationship with Kira, Odo and Dukat is also complex.
