Bashir tries to save Vedek Bareil after an accident.
Bareil is badly injured in an accident on the way to the station for peace talks with the Cardassians that he has been leading for Kai Winn. Bashir revives him after brain death, but the treatment causes damage to his body, and Bareil pushes on through the talks while his health deteriorates.
With Kira's support, Bashir replaces parts of Bareil's brain with artificial implants, but Bareil loses his memories and feelings, and Kira lets him die. Winn takes credit for the treaty. In a lighter story, Jake and Nog go on a double date.
