A people of spiritual faith who suffered under Cardassian occupation.
Bajorans are a humanoid people from the planet Bajor, easily recognised by the ridged bridge of the nose. Their civilisation is ancient and artistic, with a long history of architecture, philosophy and music that goes back many thousands of years.
Spirituality sits at the centre of Bajoran life. They revere the Prophets, beings who live within the Bajoran wormhole, and their religious leaders, called vedeks and kai, hold considerable influence over society. Many Bajorans wear a single earring as a sign of faith, and their orbs are treasured as gifts from the Prophets.
For decades the Cardassians occupied Bajor and treated its people harshly, an experience that shaped a generation of resistance fighters. After the occupation ended, Starfleet established a presence at the space station Deep Space Nine, where Captain Sisko became known to the Bajorans as the Emissary. Major Kira Nerys, a former resistance member, serves as a key link between the station and her people, and Bajor eventually applied to join the Federation.
