Winn Adami is a Bajoran religious leader who rises to the position of Kai in Deep Space Nine, played by Louise Fletcher. Introduced as a ambitious cleric, she is outwardly pious but hungry for power, and she is a frequent obstacle for Commander Sisko and the Bajoran people.
Her scheming leads to many conflicts. She tangles with Vedek Bareil, clashes with Sisko over his role as the Emissary and eventually allies with Gul Dukat, whose own plans are bound up with the Pah-wraiths. The pair's relationship shifts from distrust to dangerous cooperation, and her hunger for authority eventually leads to a decisive reckoning.
Winn endures as a gripping antagonist because she is complicated. She believes she serves her people, and her sincerity, charm and ruthlessness make her one of the series' most fascinating villains.
