The council of senior Bajoran clergy, which guides the Bajoran faith and elects the Kai.
The Vedek Assembly is the governing body of Bajor's religion, made up of vedeks, the high-ranking clergy who serve the Prophets. It sets religious policy, wields significant political influence on Bajor and chooses the Kai, the faith's spiritual leader, from among its members.
After Kai Opaka is lost in the Gamma Quadrant, the assembly holds an election in which Vedek Winn becomes Kai when her rival, Vedek Bareil Antos, withdraws in The Collaborator. Winn remains Kai until her death in 2375.
