Bajor

Bajoran homeworld

A world with a long history of art and religion.

Bajor is the homeworld of the Bajorans, a temperate and beautiful planet with a long history of art, religion and civilisation. The planet is deeply spiritual, and the Bajorans are devoted to the Prophets, who live in the nearby wormhole. Its cities, temples and countryside are an important backdrop to Deep Space Nine.
For many years the Cardassians occupied Bajor, stripping the planet of its resources and treating the people with great cruelty. The occupation ended after a determined resistance movement forced the Cardassians to withdraw, and the Federation then helped to rebuild. Bajor's place at the head of the wormhole made it a key world for the quadrant.
Deep Space Nine was established in orbit of Bajor, and the planet is central to many of the show's stories. Captain Sisko, Major Kira and Vedek Bareil are among the people who work to help the planet recover, and many episodes visit Bajor itself. Bajor later applies to join the Federation, a sign of how far it has come since the occupation.
