The interim government of Bajor formed after the end of the Cardassian occupation in 2369.
The Bajoran Provisional Government took charge of Bajor after the Cardassians withdrew in 2369. Struggling with the damage left by decades of occupation and with rival factions, it invited the Federation to administer the former Cardassian station Terok Nor, renamed Deep Space Nine, and sought membership in the Federation.
The government is led by a first minister and a council of ministers. Kai Winn briefly served as first minister, and the former resistance leader Shakaar Edon was later elected to the post. The isolationist Circle tried to overthrow it in its first year.
