Empok Nor

Abandoned Cardassian station

An abandoned Cardassian mining station built to the same design as Deep Space Nine, salvaged for parts by Miles O'Brien's team in 2374.

Empok Nor is a Cardassian ore-processing station of the same Nor-class design as Terok Nor, the station that became Deep Space Nine. The Cardassians abandoned it after they withdrew from Bajoran space, leaving it empty but not entirely unguarded. It sits in the Trivas system, some distance from Bajor.
In 2374 Miles O'Brien led a salvage team, including Elim Garak, to collect parts from the station. The Cardassians had left booby traps and a group of Cardassian soldiers in stasis, who woke and began killing the team. Garak was exposed to a psychotropic drug used by the soldiers that heightened his xenophobia, and he turned on the others before O'Brien stopped him. The station was later chosen as the site of a prisoner exchange, where Quark and a band of Ferengi traded a captured Vorta for his mother, Ishka, who was held by the Dominion.
Empok Nor offers a dark mirror of Deep Space Nine, showing what the station might look like without its crew. Its eerie corridors gave the series one of its most suspenseful episodes and a look into Garak's Cardassian past.
