A young adventurer who becomes captain of the Protostar.
Dal R'El is a teenage hero of Star Trek: Prodigy, an animated series set in the Delta Quadrant. He is a young adventurer of uncertain origin who escapes from a prison mining colony with a group of other young prisoners and finds an abandoned Starfleet ship called the Protostar.
He is cocky and impulsive, and he takes charge of the ship and its crew almost by accident. As the series continues, he learns about Starfleet, the principles of the Federation and the responsibilities that come with leadership. He is guided by the hologram of Captain Janeway and later learns the truth about his own past, including his mysterious family history.
Dal's journey from reckless troublemaker to a young leader who believes in Starfleet's ideals is the heart of Prodigy, and it introduces new viewers to the Star Trek universe.
