Dal and his fellow prisoners escape Tars Lamora aboard the abandoned USS Protostar, with the Diviner and Drednok in pursuit.
The second half of Prodigy's premiere follows Dal R'El and the other young prisoners of the Tars Lamora mining colony as they bring the abandoned USS Protostar to life. Dal, Zero, Jankom Pog, Rok-Tahk and Murf take the Diviner's daughter Gwyn hostage, and the group flees the colony.
The ship's training hologram of Kathryn Janeway is activated and begins introducing the crew to Starfleet and its ideals. The Diviner, who has spent years searching for the Protostar, sends his enforcer Drednok after them. The premiere establishes the found-family crew and the secret of the ship that drives the first season.
