The crew seeks asylum at a remote Starfleet relay station run by Lieutenant Frex. Scans reveal that Murf is a Mellanoid slime worm and that Dal's species is classified by Starfleet. Gwyn recovers her memories in the station's sickbay but is too late to stop Frex from linking the station to the Protostar, which activates the hidden weapon.
The station destroys itself, Frex escapes, and the crew flees on the Protostar. Meanwhile Vice Admiral Janeway and the Dauntless trace the ship's path back to Tars Lamora, where they find the Diviner. Kevin and Dan Hageman wrote the episode.
