The half-Cardassian, half-Bajoran daughter of Gul Dukat, whose loyalty to her friends on Deep Space Nine cost her her life during the Dominion War.
Tora Ziyal was the daughter of the Cardassian officer Dukat and Tora Naprem, a Bajoran woman he took as a mistress during the Occupation. After her mother was killed, Ziyal grew up in a Breen labour camp, where Kira Nerys and Dukat found her during a search for a lost Cardassian prison transport.
Belonging fully to neither people, Ziyal struggled to find a place in either society. She spent time on Bajor and later lived on Deep Space Nine, where she developed her talent as an artist and formed a close friendship with Kira and a tender bond with the exiled tailor Elim Garak. When Dukat sided with the Dominion and seized the station, she remained there with him but quietly helped the resistance working against the occupiers.
As the Federation retook the station, Damar discovered her betrayal and shot her dead. Her death shattered Dukat, triggering the mental collapse that sent him down his darkest path. Ziyal is remembered as a gentle figure caught between two warring worlds and the families who claimed her.
