The capital of the Federation and the site of Starfleet Headquarters.
Earth is the homeworld of humanity and the political centre of the United Federation of Planets. A blue planet with oceans, continents and a great variety of life, it is the home of Starfleet Command and of the Federation Council, and its cities and landmarks appear throughout the franchise.
In the Star Trek future, Earth has abandoned poverty and war, and its people have turned their attention to the exploration of space. The planet suffered the devastation of a global conflict in the twenty-first century, and the arrival of the Vulcans after Zefram Cochrane's warp flight led humanity to take its place among the stars.
Earth is visited in many episodes and films, and is at the heart of stories such as The Voyage Home, in which Kirk and his crew travel to the twentieth century to save a whale, and First Contact, in which the Borg try to change history. The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and Paris are among the places that recur, and Earth remains the emotional anchor for the whole series.
