The founders of the Federation, who survived World War III and first contact.
Humans are the people of Earth and the founding species of the United Federation of Planets. Physically they are a fairly ordinary humanoid species, but their adaptability, curiosity and willingness to face danger have been central to the story of exploration in Star Trek.
In the Star Trek future, humanity has overcome war, poverty and prejudice on Earth, a transformation that followed a global conflict and the encounter with the Vulcans after humanity's first warp flight. Humans cherish the ideals of free inquiry, equality and personal growth, and they have developed a culture that places exploration and cooperation above material wealth.
Humans appear in every series. Captain Kirk, Captain Picard, Captain Sisko, Captain Janeway and Captain Archer are among the most famous, and each represents a different style of leadership. Earth hosts Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco, and many other humans live and work on distant colonies and starships across the Federation, which they helped found alongside the Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites.
