The Dol'drm homeworld is the planet between Mars and Jupiter at the center of Valles Marineris, home to an insect-like species at war with the ancient Martians some 65 million years ago. The time-displaced Enterprise becomes caught up in the conflict.
The Martian commander Cassell uses the Enterprise's antimatter fuel cell to destroy the planet. Its debris forms the asteroid belt and shifts Mars's orbit enough to cause the planet's eventual wasteland state, while a fragment becomes the asteroid that wipes out the dinosaurs on Earth.
