A small Indiana town where the Millennium Gate was built at the end of 2000, and where Kathryn Janeway's ancestor Shannon O'Donnell met Henry Janeway.
Portage Creek is a small town in Indiana, in the United States, shown in 11:59. By December 2000 the planned Millennium Gate, a huge arcology project, has driven most businesses out of town, leaving Henry Janeway's bookstore as the last holdout. Shannon O'Donnell arrives when her car breaks down there.
The story is told through Kathryn Janeway's research into her family history, prompted by Neelix. She had believed Shannon fought to complete the Gate and became an astronaut, but she learns that Shannon was simply a traveler who helped bring the project and her future family together in Portage Creek.
