Carbon Creek is a coal-mining town in Pennsylvania. According to the family story T'Pol tells in Carbon Creek, a Vulcan survey ship crash-landed nearby in 1957, and its survivors T'Mir and Mestral went into the town to find food, renting rooms from the tavern owner Maggie.
Over several months the Vulcans blended in with the townsfolk, and Mestral secretly helped rescue trapped miners after an explosion. T'Pol travels to Carbon Creek before rejoining Enterprise, and the story challenges the accepted history that humans and Vulcans first met in 2063.
