The Cetacean Institute is a marine institute in Sausalito, California, in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. In 1986 it houses two humpback whales, George and Gracie, studied by marine biologist Gillian Taylor.
Kirk and Spock visit the institute while searching for humpbacks to bring back to the twenty-third century, where a probe is threatening Earth. There Kirk meets Gillian, and the two eventually work together to save the whales.
