A Vulcan scientist stranded in a Pennsylvania mining town in 1957, as told in a family story by T'Pol.
T'Mir is T'Pol's great-grandmother and the subject of the story T'Pol tells in Carbon Creek. In 1957 she is second in command of a Vulcan survey ship watching the launch of Sputnik when a malfunction forces the craft down in Pennsylvania. Her captain is killed and she takes charge of the survivors.
Facing starvation, she and Mestral go into the town of Carbon Creek, rent rooms from the tavern owner Maggie and slowly come to know the locals. Before a rescue ship arrives, T'Mir learns a lesson in human compassion that stays with her.
