Philippa Georgiou is one of the most memorable figures of Star Trek: Discovery, and she is really two people. In the main universe she is the principled captain of the USS Shenzhou, a mentor and adoptive mother figure to Michael Burnham, who dies in the opening conflict against the Klingons.
Her counterpart from the Mirror Universe is the ruthless Emperor of the Terran Empire. Brought into the main universe, she hides her identity, schemes and fights alongside the Discovery crew, then slowly wrestles with what it means to live without an empire. Michelle Yeoh plays both versions with commanding presence. Her story carries on into the Section 31 mission and a feature film built around her.
Georgiou is remembered as a study in contrasts: a noble leader and a tyrant, a mentor and a menace, always charismatic and never predictable.
