Defying Saru, Burnham and Georgiou rescue Book from an Emerald Chain salvage camp and recover a black box from the Burn, and Burnham loses her post.
With Discovery upgraded with 32nd-century technology, Book's unpiloted ship arrives with news that he has located a black box from a ship lost in the Burn. Saru orders Burnham to stay aboard, but she disobeys and takes Georgiou to Hunhau, a salvage world run by the Emerald Chain, where Book is being held.
They stage a breakout of the camp's enslaved workers and escape with Book and the black box. Vance reprimands Burnham, and Saru removes her as first officer. Anne Cofell Saunders wrote the episode and Douglas Aarniokoski directed.
