Discovery crash-lands on an icy world, and Saru and Tilly seek help in a mining settlement oppressed by the courier Zareh.
Discovery emerges from the wormhole into the 32nd century and crash-lands on a glacier, damaging the ship and injuring several crew members, including Keyla Detmer. Acting captain Saru decides to repair the ship before exploring, but it lacks the parts it needs. He and Tilly walk to a nearby settlement, where miners oppressed by the courier Zareh offer programmable matter in exchange for some of Discovery's dilithium, which would let them escape his control. Zareh kills a miner and moves to seize the dilithium, until Georgiou turns the tables and overpowers him and his men.
The crew returns with the materials only to find Discovery encased in a parasitic ice, and Burnham, who arrived in this era a full year earlier, frees the ship using Book's vessel. The second episode of the third season reunites Burnham with her crew and introduces them to the lawless galaxy left behind by the Burn. Olatunde Osunsanmi directed.
