Captain Philippa Georgiou's ship, on which Michael Burnham served as first officer until its loss at the Binary Stars.
The USS Shenzhou was a Walker-class Starfleet ship commanded by Captain Philippa Georgiou, with Michael Burnham as her first officer. In 2256 it was sent to investigate damage to an interstellar relay at the edge of Federation space near the binary star system.
There it found T'Kuvma's Klingon ship. Burnham, drawing on Vulcan knowledge of Klingon history, urged Georgiou to fire first, and when Georgiou refused, Burnham nerve-pinched her and tried to give the order herself. Georgiou recovered and had Burnham confined. T'Kuvma's call then brought many more Klingon ships, and the fight that followed became the Battle of the Binary Stars.
The Shenzhou was badly damaged in the battle. Georgiou and Burnham beamed onto T'Kuvma's ship to capture him, but Georgiou was killed, and Burnham killed T'Kuvma. The surviving crew abandoned the crippled Shenzhou, and Burnham was later convicted of mutiny and sentenced to life in prison.
