Lorca seizes the Charon, and Burnham and Georgiou fight him before Discovery destroys the ship's core and returns to its own universe.
Lorca frees his loyal followers and, with mirror Stamets, takes control of the Charon, whose reactor draws on the mycelial network; Georgiou goes into hiding. Since the reactor threatens the network across every universe, Saru plans to destroy it and ride the resulting shockwave home.
Burnham and Georgiou fight Lorca's forces together, and Georgiou kills Lorca. Rather than leave Georgiou to die, Burnham beams her back to Discovery. Discovery destroys the Charon and jumps home, only to arrive nine months after it left, with the Klingons close to winning the war. The title quotes The Tempest.
