A ruthless courier who preyed on desperate miners after the Burn and later served the Emerald Chain during its seizure of Discovery.
Zareh is a courier introduced in Far From Home. In the lawless decades following the Burn, he dominates a poor mining settlement on the icy world where Discovery crash-lands, and he plans to take the ship's dilithium for himself.
When the miners agree to help Discovery in exchange for dilithium, Zareh attacks them and kills a miner named Kal. Philippa Georgiou, the former Terran Emperor now serving with Starfleet, overpowers Zareh and his men, letting Saru and Sylvia Tilly return to the ship with the parts they need.
Zareh returns in There Is a Tide, now working with Osyraa and the Emerald Chain after they seize Discovery. Osyraa sends him to investigate when Michael Burnham and Cleveland Booker crash-land aboard the ship, and he captures Book while Burnham escapes unseen.
