Voyager is flung 70,000 light-years from home by a dying alien and must work with a Maquis crew.
Voyager's pilot episode opens with the Starfleet vessel pursuing a Maquis ship into the Badlands, where both are flung across the galaxy by a powerful energy wave. In the Delta Quadrant the crews find themselves short on supplies, and they are drawn into the affairs of a desert world, its underground-dwelling Ocampa and a trader named Neelix.
The episode establishes the premise of a ship about 70,000 light-years from home, introduces the Doctor, Kes, Neelix and the uneasy Starfleet and Maquis alliance, and gives viewers the first look at the Kazon. The pilot also introduces Tom Paris, a former Starfleet officer recruited from a prison cell to guide the ship's pursuit.
