An Ocampa who joins the Voyager crew.
Kes is an Ocampa, a species with a natural lifespan of about nine years, played by Jennifer Lien. In Voyager's pilot she is held captive by the Kazon after leaving her people's underground city, and Neelix, her companion at the time, enlists the crew to rescue her. She then joins the ship.
She trains as the Doctor's assistant in sickbay and helps him grow as a person, and Tuvok mentors her as her latent telepathic abilities begin to develop. She and Neelix eventually part, and her curiosity and gentleness make her a favorite with the crew.
In The Gift, early in the fourth season, her powers grow beyond her control. She leaves the ship to become a being of pure energy, and as a parting gift she sends Voyager thousands of light-years closer to home. In the sixth-season episode Fury she returns, older and embittered, and travels back in time to attack the ship until a message from her younger self persuades her to stop.
