The Enterprise is wrecked at the edge of explored space and the crew faces Krall.
Star Trek Beyond, released in 2016 and directed by Justin Lin, finds the Enterprise crew well into the five-year mission and beginning to feel the strain. After a stop at the starbase Yorktown, the crew answers a distress call and is attacked by a swarm of ships led by a villain named Krall. The Enterprise is destroyed and the crew is scattered across a hostile planet.
Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov have to survive separately and find each other, with the help of a scavenger named Jaylah. They discover an old Starfleet ship, the Franklin, and learn the truth about Krall's past. The film is a story about unity, the value of exploration and the way a team can be stronger together. The crew must stop Krall from attacking Yorktown, and it remains a story about hope and the Federation.
The film is the third in the series and the first of the reboot films to be directed by someone other than Abrams. It carries a tribute to the original cast, marking the loss of Leonard Nimoy, and ends with the crew getting a new Enterprise to continue their mission.
