Jaylah was an alien stranded on the planet Altamid in the Kelvin timeline. She had escaped from Krall's forces after her father was killed by them and survived alone, hiding in the wreck of the old USS Franklin, a starship she worked to restore. She protected her hideout with holographic projectors and was a skilled fighter.
In Star Trek Beyond, Jaylah rescued Montgomery Scott after the Enterprise was destroyed, and the two became friends. She led Scott and later Kirk and the others to the Franklin, which they used as a base to free the captured crew. Her knowledge of the planet and her technical skill were key to getting the Franklin flying again so the crew could stop Krall's attack on Starbase Yorktown. After the crisis, Kirk recommended her for Starfleet Academy.
Jaylah was one of the most popular new characters of the Kelvin films, a lone survivor who found a new family among the Enterprise crew.
