New Zealand actor who played Dr. Leonard McCoy in the three Kelvin Timeline films.
Karl Urban (born 1972) is a New Zealand actor whose career began in New Zealand film and television, including Xena: Warrior Princess. He went on to play Éomer in The Lord of the Rings films and the title role in Dredd, and later Billy Butcher in The Boys.
Urban played Dr. Leonard McCoy in Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016), capturing the gruff, sardonic manner DeForest Kelley had established. In the first film McCoy meets Kirk as a fellow Starfleet recruit, and Beyond gives him an extended partnership with Spock.
