A rogue Starfleet operative, John Harrison, attacks Starfleet and flees to Kronos.
Star Trek Into Darkness, released in 2013 and directed by J. J. Abrams, continues the adventures of the young Enterprise crew in the alternate timeline. After a bombing in London and an attack on a Starfleet meeting, a rogue agent named John Harrison escapes to the Klingon homeworld. Kirk and his crew are sent to find him, though Kirk's choices in the pursuit begin to trouble him.
The true identity of the villain is revealed as Khan, and the story explores the lengths to which people will go in the name of security. Admiral Marcus, who is behind a secret weapons program, is a key part of the plot, and the crew must decide between following orders and doing what is right. Kirk learns the cost of command through a sacrifice that tests his friendship with Spock.
The film reworks the story of the earlier film, The Wrath of Khan, with a new twist, and it is the second in the new film series. It brought the crew closer to the roles that fans know and prepared them for the five-year mission they were about to begin.
